Year 4

Mrs Brazier will teach Mon – Thurs, Mrs Rogers on Fridays.

P.E will mainly be on Monday and Tuesday this term. It may vary during the term to incorporate other activities.

Each child should be bringing home their independent reading book, library book and reading diary each day. Library books can be changed every Friday. Independent books can be changed twice a week. They will also be reading a book in their guided reading sessions, but these books will stay in school. Of course if they have another book they are reading at home that’s fantastic!

Regular reading is vital to improve fluency and understanding, but also it has a dramatic impact on the quality of writing composition. Every child is expected to read at least 3 times a week and record this in their diary. House points are on offer to those children who read more regularly at home. Reading diaries will be checked each morning. If a child has a signature/comment to acknowledge they have read the previous evening, they will move up a space on the Year 4 reading express track.  If they reach the final stop on the track by reading 5 days in a week they will earn 10 House Points. If they read 4 days in a week they will earn 5 House Points. These House Points will be awarded every Monday.

Water bottles

It is really important that children stay hydrated during the day. We do not have a water fountain so they must bring in a named water bottle each day. During class time children are only allowed water. So if your child has squash or flavoured water for lunchtime please ensure they have a separate water bottle for class time.

Homework and spellings

Homework is given out every Tuesday to be completed by the following Monday.

Spellings are stuck into the homework books and these words will be tested on the following Monday.

WAM/BAM clubs

There will be at least one WAM/BAM test each week to improve times-tables. By the end of year 4 all children are expected to know all their tables up to 12.
